Military Women are sometimes forgotten and misunderstood. Hope4veterans brings awareness of Culture and Stories of Military women through Theatre/ Photo display – storytelling and Fashion.
Hope4Veterans hosts an inspiring event at The Waterworks on Sunday, June 9th from 2-5 PM that celebrates the resilience and achievements of women veterans. Sponsored by the St. Johns Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, this event promises an afternoon of empowerment and entertainment.
The schedule for the event is packed with activities that showcase the strength and diversity of women who have served in the military. From 2-2:30 PM, the "She Served" exhibit will display the stories of 20 incredible women veterans, highlighting their dedication and contributions.
At 2:30 PM, the stage will come alive with "Single Black Female in Navy," a theatre/play written and performed by Kim Mullins. This powerful performance explores the unique journey of a single black female serving in the Navy and promises to captivate the audience. (This content contains scenes related to a brief sexual assault which may be distressing or triggering for some individuals)
Following the play at 3:35 PM, women veterans will take to the stage for "Lady Strut," a symbolic walk with a purpose, showcasing their strength and unity. The event will then take a brief intermission from 3:45 to 4:00 PM, allowing attendees to learn more about the STA Veteran Historical Project and H4V Military Women initiatives.
The afternoon will conclude with Act 2 of "Single Black Female in Navy," providing further insight into the challenges and triumphs faced by women veterans from 4-5 PM.
