"Exuberance" mixed media works of Richlin Burnett-Ryan

Presented by Butterfield Garage Art Gallery at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery

Butterfield Garage April Feature Artist, Richlin Burnett-Ryan presents “Exuberance”. Enjoy an Artist Talk during First Friday Art Walk on April 5th, at 6 pm to learn Richlin’s approach and inspiration!

Richlin Burnett-Ryan's work explores the color play of tissue paper with acrylic paints and inks on canvas, which allows her to create amazing translucent color interactions and texture.  Her process begins by removing all color and shade from her photographic reference. By reducing the image to its linear or solid black-and-white form. Then reintroduce color to vacant spaces, sometimes overlapping the form.

This body of work entitled “Exuberance” focuses on extracting joy in the practice of creating art. "I’m leaping into the unknown, releasing myself from the figurative boundaries and indulging more in abstract expression interpretations. My goal is to transfer the positive energy vibrations engaged in the making of the art into the environment and create positive imprints."

Born in 1967 in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, Richlin Burnett-Ryan immigrated to the United States at eight and settled in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Clara Barton High School and took art classes at the Brooklyn Museum. Her undergraduate studies were at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, and The School of Visual Arts, New York City majored in Graphic Design. She worked as the Art Director of IDD Magazine for Thompson Financial, NYC. Richlin is married to artist Weldon Ryan and resides in Palm Coast, Florida. Presently she is a full-time artist and curator.
