At 61, Lucinda Williams is in the middle of the most prolific period of her career. After 10 acclaimed studio albums, Williams refuses to rest on her laurels and continues to push her creative boundaries. Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone features 20 new songs, with 18 written solely by Williams. The album’s opening track, “Compassion” marks a personal milestone for Williams, as it is the first time she has composed music for one of her father’s (poet Miller Williams) poems. The album closes with an epic and gorgeous rendition of JJ Cale’s “Magnolia”. Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone is the first release on Lucinda Williams’ own Highway 20 Records label.
