The St. Augustine/St. Johns County Visitor Information Center will sponsor a book signing by Ann Browning Masters, author of Floridanos, Menorcans, Cattle Whip Crackers: Poetry of St. Augustine Sunday, December 18 from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
The St. Augustine/St. Johns County Visitor Information Center will sponsor a book signing by Ann Browning Masters, author of Floridanos, Menorcans, Cattle Whip Crackers: Poetry of St. Augustine.
Published by the Florida Historical Society Press, Masters' book is a St. Augustine classic, describing bold, humorous, and sometimes heart-tugging oral traditions and old ways. Local holiday shoppers and visitors will enjoy this slice of Florida history told by common folk, where Floridano, Menorcan, and Cracker voices form a heritage that still exists in St. Augustine.
In 2015 Dr. Masters was knighted by the St. Augustine Easter Festival for her dedication in promoting St. Augustine's Spanish heritage. She is a Floridana, a descendant of Spanish settlers during Florida's First Spanish Period, and a Menorcan, a descendant of the Italian, Greek and Menorcan colony who came to St. Augustine in 1777 during Florida's British Period. A St. Augustine native, she is a 12th generation Floridian.
