FACES & PLACES: Portraits & Landscapes by SCOTT WATERS

FACES & PLACES: Portraits & Landscapes by SCOTT WATERS

Presented by St. Johns Cultural Council at St. Johns County Administration Building

Scott Waters will exhibit original works from his "Faces and Places" series in the St. Johns Cultural Council's next Art in Public Places exhibit. The show will be in the Rotunda Gallery at the St. Johns County Administration Building from December 2, 2014 through January 22, 2015. There will be an opening reception Tuesday, December 2 starting at 8:15 a.m., just before the Board of County Commission meeting. Light refreshments will be served. The public is invited and encouraged to attend what promises to be a very special opening. FACES AND PLACES combines the portrait and landscape paintings of Scott Waters, a local artist who works in both traditional acrylic paints and digital computer media. A commercial artist, audio engineer and computer geek, Scott attended Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota Florida majoring in Commercial Art and Illustration. From 1983, he worked for Apple Computer as a Field Marketing Manager and consultant in public relations and marketing. He participated in a variety of projects on the mainland, in Hawaii and Australia. Continuing to paint after moving to Hawaii, Scott worked as a computer consultant and commercial artist. The island's light and culture brightened his palette and influenced his technique as a modern impressionist. The current century included a sabbatical in Southwest Britain, studying painting in Ireland and relocating to St. Augustine, Florida. In addition to producing landscapes of Florida, England and Ireland, Mr. Waters has concentrated on painting digitally with his iPad, recently producing a series of portraits of local musicians and landscapes that combine classic techniques with contemporary media while maintaining the quality of traditional painting. Mr. Waters is a founding member of the Anonymous Society of Artists, a local group involved in events, shows, plein-air sessions and new media. Scott's work has been shown at Maui's Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center, The Crossroads Art Center in Richmond Virginia, Butterfield Too Gallery, and Tim's Wine Market in St. Augustine and on his iPad to anyone interested. Located at 500 San Sebastian View off of US1 North, the St. Johns County Administration Building is open to the public from 8a.m. until 5p.m. Monday through Friday. The St. Johns Cultural Council would like to thank the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners for their continued support of this Art in Public Places project. The Cultural Council is funded in part by a grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, the State of the Arts License Plate funds and with the support of The St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
