THRU THE LENSE OF JOHN LORENZO JACKSON

THRU THE LENSE OF JOHN LORENZO JACKSON

Presented by St. Johns Cultural Council at St. Johns County Administration Building

The St Johns Cultural Council and The Jackson-Gloster-Morgan Family Reunion Fund will present an exhibition of photos by the late John L Jackson (1920-2001).
Mr. Jackson was born in Blackville SC and moved to St Augustine at the early age of nine (9). He attended local schools and became an educator and administrator within the St Johns County School System.
Most of his photos were taken during the late 40’s to the late 1970’s. He took and developed the black and white pictures himself in his self constructed ‘dark room’ and sent the color shots away to be developed. John was the official photographer for Florida Normal and Industrial Memorial College (later became Florida Memorial University) during the mid to late 1960’s prior to the school moving to Miami. He also took many photos of local people, activities and events in the St Augustine/St Johns County area.
The exhibit will be on display from February 3, 2015 until March 26,2015 in the St Johns County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastian View, St Augustine, FL. The opening reception will take place on Tuesday the 3rd at 8:15am – 9:00am.
The Exhibit includes some of the actual equipment he used to develop the black and white prints (Enlarger, mixer, dryer, etc.).
The Exhibit is entitled:
The Jackson Exhibit, A PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTION OF PEOPLE, PLACES AND EVENTS WITHIN THE ST AUGUSTINE, ST JOHNS COUNTY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES DURING THE 1940’S to THE 1970’S.
