Painter Tanya Engelhard and sculptor Bruce Carr will be the featured artists at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery during February, with an opening reception during the First Friday Art Walk on February 6 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. While earning a Bachelor’s degree in fine art at Virginia Wesleyan, Tanya Engelhard cultivated a deepening belief in the connection between visual art and well-being. These insights led her to earn a Master’s degree in art therapy and encouraged her to express through her own pieces a stronger convergence of mind and medium. Experimentation with paint, color, and texture and engagement with both internal and external imagery continually shape the varying constructs of her work. Abstract, contemporary, modern, her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and shown at art fairs throughout the United States and are found in private and corporate collections. From monumental outdoor sculpture to smaller, more intimate pieces, Bruce Carr creates work intended to translate passion, emotion and energy into three-dimensional forms that inspire. He believes that lasting and fulfilling happiness results from serving and giving. “My work” he explains, “is intended to serve by providing a tangible piece of beautiful sculpture that makes you happy. Simple.” His materials consist of found or recycled materials -- deadfall and driftwood from Colorado and Florida, feathers from walks on the beach, leather from old horse tack. Insignificant on their own, these materials come together to tell a story. His work is in public collections in San Francisco, Salida County, Colorado, and St Johns County, Florida, and in private collections in Colorado and Florida. The exhibition will continue through March 3 at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery, 137 King Street, St. Augustine.
