Presented by Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library at Ponte Vedra Library

Quotations take on a life of their own, particularly on the internet, and the same quote may be attributed to different icons like Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain or Woody Allen. Garson O’Toole, billed as the internet’s foremost quotation investigator shares some of the fascinating results of his research compiled in his new book, Hemingway Didn’t Say That: The Truth Behind Familiar Quotations. O’Toole is the featured Book Talk Café author on Book Talk Café, Monday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Library.

Hemingway Didn’t Say That contains an enormous amount of original research, information previously unavailable to readers, writers, and scholars. It also serves as the first careful examination of what causes misquotations and how they spread across the globe.

Fred Shapiro, the editor of The Yale Book of Quotations, recently reviewed Hemingway Didn’t Say That for the Wall Street Journal. He concluded with this statement, “Mr. O’Toole is a beacon of accuracy who should inspire all readers who prefer their facts real rather than phony.”

Presented by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library, Book Talk Café is free and open to the public. The author will sign copies of his book and light refreshments will be served.
