Department of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition

Presented by Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College at Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College

In March, the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum and Flagler College are pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by faculty in Flagler College’s Department of Art and Design. The exhibition will open with a reception for the artists on Friday, March 6 from 5 until 9pm, and continues through April 17.

Encompassing painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video, print and digital design, the artist’s bodies of work speak to the strength of their individual practices, and also demonstrate the breadth of experience they bring to their teaching practice at Flagler College.

CEAM will present examples of just one of Luciana Gassett’s recent projects, her elegant design for the 125th Anniversary of the Hotel Ponce de Leon.  Diana Lodi’s work, encompassing brand identity systems, websites, apps, promotional materials, packaging and environmental graphics, contribute to the idea that design has the power to promote both commerce and social change. Inspired by 18th and 19th century botanical illustrations, Don Martin’s new suite of laboriously carved and intricate woodblock prints examines the native plants found in his own backyard.  Laura Mongiovi’s work traverses the idea of the body, voyages and mapping through drawing, stitching and clay. In the videos from his series Unteaching Practices / The Art Tests, Patrick Moser simultaneously embraces and mocks the pedagogical devices he uses in his teaching practice.  Sara Pedigo turns her eye to domestic spaces in her most recent body of work, allowing the fleeting nature of light and perception to guide her in capturing mundane moments. Leslie Robison employs video, performance, drawing and photography to investigate the power structures of academia, and her own role within that dynamic. Chris Smith’s keen eye for artistic rendering is evident in his many branding and print design projects.  Finally, Natalie Stephenson’s explores service learning in design education, a form of experiential learning that addresses design-related needs in the community.
