Saturday – All Levels Lecture Series (No Camera Needed)

Learning to See Creatively —The first step to creative photography is developing the skills of composition and perspective. The second step is to learn “to see”. It is easy to overlook the important fact that  photographs come from you; cameras are simply tools. Close your eyes and think about the photographs that linger in your memory—images that stood out and made you take notice, perhaps even changed your life. This course is designed for the intermediate photographer or the photographer looking to break through a creative roadblock.

Black and White Photography — A World in Shades of Grey: How do you assemble in a visual context, the black and white image? Here we will explore the elements of successful black and white images refining our vision into photography in its basic tonal, textural and focusing contrasts.

Introduction to Infrared Photography — Combining the elements from the morning session and the black & White session, we now enter the world of invisible light—the near infrared spectrum. We will explore the infrared process using a filter on our cameras. In this course, the photographer will begin to the world of infrared black and white photography by using a simple filter on a tripod mounted camera. The multi step process will be fully and clearly explained.

Sunday — Intermediate to Advanced (with a clear understanding of manual mode) 
Camera Needed - Full control of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed

Field Session at Big Talbot Island State Park: One of Northeast Florida's unique sea islands, Big Talbot Island State Park is primarily a natural preserve providing a premier location for nature study and bird-watching.  We will visit the island for photography however. During our visit, we will be in the section  known as “the Bluffs”.  We will descend via a soft sandy trail onto Boneyard Beach, which is famous for the salt-washed skeletons of live oak and cedar trees that once grew near the shore, yes – driftwood the size of trees! Here we will utilize the concepts from Day One, but add to that Previsualization and Composition to create stunning images of this unique location.
