Katherine Parker Celebrates Summer

Katherine Parker Celebrates Summer

Presented by Butterfield Garage Art Gallery at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery

Known for her joyful style celebrating nature and the female experience, Katherine E. Parker won hundreds of awards during a prolific career that was cut short by her untimely death in 2004. In tribute to the distinctive work of this innovative artist, Butterfield Garage will host a special exhibition throughout the month of May, with an opening reception during the First Friday Art Walk on May 1 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Katherine E. Parker lived and worked in St. Augustine for 30 years. As an artist, she preferred to rely on her inner eye and imagination rather than any “reality-based” assistance such as photography or models. Proficient in painting, drawing, and printmaking, she developed a unique technique creating monotype serigraph silkscreens overlaid with gouache, pencil and gold leaf.

Her paintings have been distributed worldwide as fine art posters since 1985, and her work was widely commissioned by magazines, institutions, corporations and private collectors.

Parker's personal collection was posthumously donated to the Center for Spiritual Living located at 1795 Old Moultrie Rd, St. Augustine FL 32084 . The original works and prints in the exhibition are being offered for sale.

The exhibition will continue through June 2 at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery, 137 King Street, St. Augustine. The gallery is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For further information, please call 904 825-4577, visit the website at www.butterfieldgarage.com, or contact Jan Miller at janmille@bellsouth.net
