The Art Studio Presents: Cynthia Pierson, Featured Artist for July 2015

at Unknown

The Art Studio's featured artist for the month of July has worked and studied many facets of art. As a small child, she could be found with a crayon, pencil, or paintbrush at most times. After a year of art school at Indiana University, Cynthia landed positions as an Art Director and Illustrator for several national magazines such as: Jack & Jill, Child Life, Children's Playmate, and Amateur Athlete Magazine, all with Curtis Publishing in Indianapolis, Indiana. She left her positions as a graphic artist and illustrator to pursue a sales career, but kept her hand in creative activities throughout her life. She has designed theater sets, theatrical costumes, painted commissioned wall murals and commissioned portraits, which are her favorite thing to paint. After working many years with art in the sidelines, she is back to doing what she loves; painting with pastels and water colors.                Cynthia and her husband, jazz musician, Jack Pierson, moved to St. Augustine in 2005, and she continues studying and improving her skills with inspiring local and nationally-known artists such as: Lyn Asselta, Richard Gemski, Elizabeth Mowry, Bianna Szabo,Casey Klahn and others. As an active member of The Art Studio, she is a current committee member and helps with show installation. She is also a member of the St. Augustine Art Association, where she volunteers as a docent and works on show installation. She is also a member of The First Coast Pastel Society, The Portrait Society of America, The North Florida Pastel Society, The Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra, Pastel Society of North Florida, and Pastel Society of America. Cynthia enjoys participating in juried shows and at the 2015St. Augustine Art Association Figures & Faces show, she received the Ann James Memorial Award for Outstanding Pastel Portrait. She has also received an Honorable Mention for her entry in the St. Augustine Art Association Fall Member’s Show and also in the Pastel Society of North Florida 2014 National Juried Exhibition and the Northport Pastel Show in 2015.  Most recently she won a Merit Award for her painting Ximenez Fatio House, and the People’s Choice Award for her painting Handyman, at the First Coast Pastel Society Members Show.  A reception at The Art Studio of St. Augustine Beach is planned during the First Friday Artwalk, July 3rd, from 5:00pm-9:00pm.
