Writing the Novel

at Unknown

Novelist, short story writer and creative writing professor John Dufresne will visit St. Augustine for a one-day novel-writing workshop that will help participants prepare a full novel manuscript in six months. “Writing a novel,” Dufresne says, “is not as easy as you may have thought before you tried. But it’s also not as difficult as you imagined.” Through Dufresne's good humor and practical advice, workshop participants will be on the right track to completing a novel in six months. John Dufresne is the recipient of a 2012 Guggenheim fellowship. He is the author of four novels, two of which were named New York Times notable books of the year (Louisiana Power & Light in 1994 and Love Warps the Mind a Little in 1997). His novel Requiem, Mass was awarded the Florida Book Awards’ Gold Medal in Fiction and was also a People Magazine Book Pick of the Week. Dufresne is also the author of two short story collections, three chapbooks and two books on writing: “The Lie That Tells a Truth: a Guide to Writing Fiction” and “Is Life Like This? A Guide to Writing Your First Novel in Six Months.” He is a professor of Creative Writing in the MFA program at Florida International University in Miami.
