The Downtown Bazaar

The Downtown Bazaar

at Colonial Quarter

The setting sun brings beautiful artwork to life along the pathways of the Colonial Quarter. Sculptures glow, paintings and photographs deepen in hue and seem to breathe. The fire of old St Augustine blazes from exquisite jewelry and glass pieces. Darkness approaches, but is held at bay by gentle illumination along the walkways—enough light to easily see the talents of St Augustine's gifted artists, but not so much that the city's ancient spirits are too shy to peek from between leafy branches and around corners to watch the goings-on.

It's the kind of soft light that reminds us of the secrets and mysteries tucked away in The Nation's Oldest City. Oh, they're there, for sure. The whispers of those long passed on. Some of their stories are mostly lost now but evidence of their moments in the magnificent timeworn town remains . . . .

If you're lucky enough to be hand in hand with your favorite "other," the deepening shadows and fragrant Florida air reveals the romantic side of the old living history museum.

In the nicest possible way.

Music floats in the air, beckoning you to the Colonial Quarter stage beneath lanterns glowing from the branches of the old oak tree. Dancers dip and sway, musicians lose themselves in the sounds of their art, and speakers invite you to think about things you may never have considered. After a while, the fragrance of exotic seasonings and mouthwatering food guide you to one of the Quarter's fine restaurants.

This was the scene envisioned by St Augustine businesswoman Nico Recore as she visited the Colonial Quarter around sundown one evening. Nearly three years later, The Downtown Bazaar is now a beloved recurring St Augustine event held in an iconic city landmark. Through Nico's efforts, the city's distinctive and remarkable art is showcased in an equally distinctive setting.

Guests are invited to the Colonial Quarter on September 12 from 6-10 PM. Browse the extensive array of art, from paintings and photos, to sculptures and rustic wall art, books, jams, jellies, glass, jewelry, and more. Enjoy live music, bellydancers, and perhaps a few extra live entertainment treats. The event is free, and the Colonial Quarter is pet-friendly. It is also an outdoor venue, so please dress and prepare accordingly.

Craftspeople and artists are invited to be a part of this extraordinary event. Please visit http://www.thedowntownbazaar.com/ for a Vendor Application.
