St Augustine Archaeological Association Meeting / Lecture

Presented by St. Augustine Archaeological Association at Unknown

The monthly meeting of the St. Augustine Archaeological Association will present a talk by Dr. Lori Collins titled Heritage at Risk: How 3D and imaging tools are helping managers and researchers better preserve, protect, and interpret the Castillo de San Marcos.

Dr. Collins is a Research Associate Professor at the University of South Florida and a Co- Director of the USF Libraries of Digital Heritage and Humanities Collection.

Using the latest in 3D and specialized imaging tools, archaeologists and GIScience specialists with the University of South Florida Libraries' Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections are working in partnership with the Southeast Archeological Center of the National Park Service, creating up-to-date as-built 3D models of the Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas. This data will be used to monitor and analyze change and to assist in planning and management of these important masonry structures. The results will also help to create interactive tourism and learning opportunities for the public, such as 3D models and virtual reality tours. In this talk, she will focus on some of our early results and share a vision for how this data will be used, shared, and help in the preservation planning for these nationally significant resources.
