Skelly Art Show!

Skelly Art Show!

at Unknown

Do you like skeletons? How about skeletons masquerading as tourists? If the answer is yes, then you must go to The Red Sable Art Store & Gallery in October to see Marie Marfia's skeleton-themed art show.

Ms. Marfia will show works from her "Greetings from St. Augustine" series (campy skeleton tourists capering on and around Old City landmarks), her "Old (Dead) Masters" series (a bare-bones homage to classical art works), and her "Skelly Dancer" series (skeletal dancers on the beach) just in time for Hallowe'en.

A Day of the Dead festival, also at The Red Sable Art Store & Gallery, will combine an artist's reception with more artist booths and food, plus a special memorial trunk and treat show. Ms. Marfia says, "I love skeletons and what better way to showcase these happy bags of bones than with a Dia de los Muertos party?" The festival and artist's reception is scheduled for Friday, October 30 and is open to the public.

Marie Marfia has a BFA from Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan and lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida. She is a member of the First Coast Pastel Society, Local Artists Coming Together, and the Art League of Jacksonville. She started painting skeletons as a surreal part of her 100 Belly Dancer series, "but they've taken on a life of their own," she says, tongue very much in cheek.

Along with original art work, there will also be prints and cards available for sale at the show. For more information about the show or the Day of the Dead festival on October 30, contact Melissa Roby at The Red Sable, 904-217-8426.
