Principles of Painting Design with Susanne Schuenke, Ph.D.

at Unknown

This is an introduction into topics, which can be a challenge for any artist, beginner or expert. Therefore, to become familiar with them, it will help to recognize the source of a problem in the creative work and offer the way to fix it. The sessions will close with a circa 20 min long power-point presentation of that principle discussed in the practical application in painting.
The LINE
A warm up: simple drawing and guidelines to the basic proportions of the human face.
LIGHT and SHADE
Creating the illusion of volume on the flat surface (paper/canvas)
PERSPECTIVE I
Don’t run away – once you know the construction, you can build the basic components of the one-point perspective
PERSPECTIVE II
We spend a little more time with the perspective: the two point perspective
Aspects of COMPOSITION
Playtime – and understanding of contrasts by rhythm, symmetries, mass/space, dark/light, and movement/static.
“expression” or EXPRESSION – what is intended and what simply happens when you draw/design/paint
Participants bring their own material to draw: sketch paper (inexpensive, but  at least 11”x15”, pencil, eraser, ruler of 18” length or more. For the  Color class some simple water color and brushes will do.
