                               Old City Drum Corps

Saint Augustine’s Premier 18th Century Non-Profit Fife & Drum Corps

Re-Established After 42 Years…….Dedicated To Lt. George Carroll

In 1975 when U.S. Army veteran Master Drum Major George Carroll lead the East Florida Fife & Drum at the start of the first Night Watch Parade, he couldn’t know that one of his students would re-establish that group in 2018 to form Old City Drum Corps.

As founder, Sr. Drum Sgt. and Chairman of the Board of the newly re-organized Old City Drum Corps,  I am proud to have trained under George Carroll and am honored and excited to share with you our vision for the new Old City Drum Corps.

The professional musicians of Old City Drum Corps recall the days of 16th thru 18th century periods as they parade in uniforms patterned after those worn by the musicians of that time.  The Corps uses  century period, hand-made rope-tension drums which bring to life the exciting sounds of  16th thru 18th century drumming.  Old City Drum Corps consists of local Saint Augustine professional musicians trained in military marching, choreography and time period musick.  The size of their ensembles can be as small as a two man drumming solo exhibition….and as large as a  full 12 piece  Fife & Drum Corps with color guard & drum major.

As a 501-c3 non-profit, tax exempt organization, Old City Drum Corps is an ensemble of period dressed skilled musicians, whose sole purpose is to educate and encourage community unity through the performance of period musical selections using an assortment of  16th thru 18th authentic replica musical instruments including, but not limited to, handcrafted, period correct, rope-tension field drums and handcrafted, period correct wooden fifes.

It is our goal to share our musical talents with the citizens of our fair city and with the visitor who come to Saint Augustine to observe its enormous history and culture.  Because we are non-profit,  we depend on contributions and grant monies to sustain our mission, to obtain the period correct attire and musical instruments.  Old City Drum Corps has no paid employees.  Our talented musicians are independent contractors that receive a small stipend for the benefits they bring Saint Augustine.

On behalf of the Board of Old City Drum Corps, I thank you for time and attention and look forward to meeting and performing for you at this Septembers 2018 Events Re-Enactment Season.

Sincerely,

Michael Scott Thomas, Sr. Drum Master Sergeant

Chairman of the Board
