Cultural Council asked Residents and Visitors to Share Art around Florida’s Historic Coast through Social Media

St. Augustine, Fla – To promote arts and culture in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and the Beaches, the St. Johns Cultural Council launched #ShareArtHCC, an Instagram-based campaign to show residents and visitors that there is more to the St. Augustine area than just sunny skies and history.

Launched in March 2019, the #ShareArtHCC campaign asked visitors and residents to submit photos of what art and culture means to them in St. Johns County via the Instagram hashtag #ShareArtHCC.

The winning photo for the contest, submitted by Nicole Edenfield depicts the interior staircase of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Runners-up include Tim Hutchison’s “A New Day Rising on St. George Street”, and Masha Sardari’s composite image “Quenching a Blistering Sun” showcasing Ponte Vedra Beach. Photos were judged on criteria including creativity, impact, and their ability to tell a story about art and culture in St. Johns County.

“It is always harder than it looks to choose only three winners in a field of such good work,” Roxanne Horvath, St. Augustine City Commissioner and contest judge said. “It is also remarkable how many perspectives of our Historic City were shared. It was my pleasure as an Architect, Artist and City Commissioner to have been one of the judges for this fun cultural photo contest.”

Prizes for the photo contest include a St. Augustine vacation package including a three day, two night stay at The Collector Luxury Inn and tickets and passes to arts and culture experiences in the county.

The winning images will be curated for use in a national advertising campaign to promote St. Johns County as a premier arts destination. The Cultural Council expects the campaign will help highlight the county’s arts, culture and heritage offerings and inspire residents to participate in the area’s vibrant community arts scene.

“More and more, visitors are turning to social media platforms for travel inspiration,” St. Johns Cultural Council Director Andrew Witt said. “Instagram provides St. Johns County a unique platform to show off the beauty of our community, and with this campaign, we’ll be able to show a different side of our county, inspiring new travelers and return visitors.”
