Spring has sprung in St. John’s county with warm weather, blooming flowers, refreshing coastal breezes and festival season! This much anticipated time of year is filled with fun events and activities to experience the vibrant art scene, culture and heritage around every corner. Here are some of the top events in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and the Beaches to keep in mind as you create your warm-weather bucket list.

 

Loving Beethoven

March 6 – May 22

Enjoy an interactive music experience that crosses multiple senses in honor of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday. The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, in partnership with MIMMA (Interactive Music Museum in Malaga, Spain) is paying tribute to this milestone thanks to the traveling musical installation Loving Beethoven. MIMMA’s design team has created this installation for the Cultural Center using sizable individual spheres that when hugged, allow you to feel Ludwig van Beethoven’s music through vibration. The spheres change color when touched, which creates a unique sensorial and immersive experience. The installation is meant to bring the user closer to the music in a therapeutic way.

Our Time: Celebrating Women – Film and Cultural Arts Festival

March 27 – 28

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment securing women’s right to vote, this two-day event is packed with great films, thought-provoking speakers, a fashion show and more to honor outstanding local female heroes and open our imaginations through arts, fashion & history.

Plein Air Paint Out 

Apr. 20 – May 1

Local, regional and national artists flock to St. Augustine to participate in the citywide Plein Air Paint Out, presented by the St. Augustine Art Association. “En plein air” is a French term for painting in the open air. The outdoor practice of creating art from observation was developed in the mid-19th century and flourishes today.

Drake’s Raid

Apr. 25

The English pirate, Sir Francis Drake, and his raiders return to St. Augustine for an authentic re-creation of the 1586 sack of the city. Experience will be military drills, demonstrations and living history interpretations throughout the day.

The 24th Annual Taste of St. Augustine Festival

Apr. 26

This event has grown to be the city’s premier outdoor food festival, featuring exciting “tastes” from over 20 of St. Augustine’s best restaurants. A live music festival all day, special children’s area and a culinary marketplace add to the fun and excitement.

 

St. Augustine’s Romanza Festivale of the Arts

May 1 – 17

The 17-day celebration of art and music in America’s Most Romantic City featuring more than 80 events and exhibits by dozens of independent cultural organizations. Daily events include concerts, plays, dance showcases, art exhibits, street fairs and more.

Unidos En La Música: A Latin American Festival 2020

May 2

Immerse yourself into a journey through Latin American culture with authentic food, Latin music, games, dance workshops and cultural exhibitions. No passport required! VIP tickets are also available for more access to drinks, complementary food, meet and greets with select performers, stage access during for concerts and more.

Music by the Sea

May 20 – Aug. 26

Relax by the sea this summer and listen to great local bands every Wednesday while enjoying fresh food from local restaurants at this annual summer event. Our series offers a wide variety of family-friendly music including jazz, blues, classic rock, pop, reggae, disco and country.
