The Battle of Bloody Mose Commemoration

This award-winning, 277^th anniversary commemoration of the 1740 Spanish victory at the “Battle of Bloody Mose” will include battle re-enactments, a military encampment, and the combined muster of Florida Living History, Inc.’s historical re-enactors and the Fort Mose Militia, as well as British living-history troops from across the Southeast and local volunteers.  Featured will be battle re-enactments between the British invaders from Georgia and Florida’s victorious Spanish defenders, along with their free black militia and Native American auxiliaries.

Fort Mose State Historic Park is the site of the first, legally sanctioned free black settlement in the continental U.S., established in 1738.
