Stunning jewelry forged, woven, knitted, hammered, distressed and set with rare natural gemstones, canvases infused with story and mystery and nuanced with silver, copper, gold leaf and verdigris — all this comprises the art of Carlyle Gibbs, the featured exhibition at Butterfield Garage during the month of February, opening on Friday, February 5, with a reception from 5 until 9 p.m., during the First Friday Art Walk.
For nine years Cheryl Gibbs and Kathryn Carlyle have been designing beautiful wearable art. “Our passion for creating jewelry remains the same today as when we started,” they say. “The craft of manipulating metals and and gemstones into jewelry is a process that is both problem-solving and rewarding, and we learn something new each time we create a piece of jewelry.” Their jewelry line includes both popular designs and one-of-a-kind pieces designed to create a signature look. The exhibition will also feature evocative paintings inspired by the depth of color and meticulous striations of natural gemstones.
The exhibition will continue through March 1 at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery, 137 King Street, St. Augustine. The gallery is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For further information, please visit the Butterfield Garage Facebook page and the website at www.butterfieldgarage.com, call 904- 825-4577 or contact Jan Miller at janmille@bellsouth.net
