Battle of Bloody Mose

Experience this historically accurate reenactment of the Battle of Bloody Mose on the historic Fort Mose site. See the battle up close, and learn of its significance to local, African-American, and US histories.

In 1740, British troops invaded Spanish St. Augustine, laying siege to Fort Mose and claiming it as their own. General James Oglethorpe of Georgia led the charge.

But 16 days later, a defensive battalion of Spanish soldiers from the Castillo, Fort Mose Black militia, and Yamasee warriors surprised the British in an early morning attack.
