Flagler Creates!

 Flagler College will be hosting its sixth annual Flagler Creates! festival, featuring handmade items by the college’s students, faculty and staff on Saturday, Nov. 21. All proceeds from participant entry fees and raffle tickets will help finance student scholarships through the Flagler College Annual Fund. More than $5,000 has been donated to the fund since the event started in 2010.

 A variety of handmade items will be available, including books/book-signings, artwork, jewelry, clothing, accessories, photography, wood working and prints. A special selection of handmade gifts will be offered for raffle.

 Flagler Creates! was developed by the college’s Marsha LeDuke, office manager for the counseling center, and assistant registrar Shonas Kibbee.

 “This is a huge opportunity for local business owners and specialty shop owners to come and discover new and unique handmade items to carry in their stores,” LeDuke said. “Our intent is to help promote the Flagler community. We wanted to encourage Flagler students, staff, faculty and alumni to exhibit and sell their work, as well as help the Flagler College Annual Fund with its growth.” 

 The event takes place on the same day a traditional lighting ceremony kicks off St. Augustine’s “Nights of Lights” celebration.

 “It’s an exciting time of the year in St. Augustine and on campus — preparing for midterms, the holidays, final exams, etc.,” Kibbee said. “We’re hoping to add Flagler Creates! to the list of things that make this time of year exciting.”

 The festival, free and open to the public, will be held in the Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla Street. Event parking will be available in the Markland House parking lot located on Markland Place.
