Paul Linser, “Doctor Paul” moved to St. Augustine in 1982 with his family to pursue a career with the University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience. But he brought with him his guitars and a life-long love of folk music. By 1997 he had joined the ranks of the volunteers who produce the Gamble Rogers Music Festival and Concert Series. Over the ensuing decades, Doctor Paul helped to lead the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival Inc. into the history books of St. Augustine and Florida. Inspired by the hundreds of performers he contacted through the festival he was motivated to again pick up his guitar and play and sing for varied audiences. Paul started two performing ensembles, Paradox (a duo) and Sunset Monday (a trio). Over the years these ensembles, as well as Doctor Paul as a solo, have performed around St. Augustine, at the Gamble Rogers Music Festival, the Sing Out Loud Festival, and the Will McLean Festival, as well as the Mudville Music Room in Jacksonville. Much of Doctor Paul’s solo repertoire stems from his experiences with numerous performers who have graced the stages of the Gamble Rogers Music Festival and Concert Series in its 25-year history. In honor of Gamble Rogers and the commemorative events produced in St. Augustine for Gamble’s contributions, Dr. Paul instituted the “Radio-Free Oklawaha County” radio show on WFCF 88.5 FM which airs every Saturday morning from 7 to 9:30 AM. Doctor Paul knows that volunteering to work the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival back in 1997 changed and expanded his life.
Please Tune in to Paul J Linser live next week to wish him a Happy Retirement, give thanks, and high fives for the many years of his dedication to the Good Causes of the Gamble Rogers Music Festival!
