Celebrate St. Augustine’s immigration history while learning more about the Greek presence in its Colonial Quarter at the 251st anniversary of the first Greek Colony is commemorated.
The St. Photios Foundation honors the memory of the 500 Greek colonists who with 900 other persons throughout the Mediterranean Sea, were contracted to come to America as indentured servants with Andrew Turnbull. Most arrived in St. Augustine on June 26, 1768, only a third survived to return to St. Augustine as New Smyrna refugees.
For the past three decades, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese has held a memorial in their honor and the City of St. Augustine proclaims itself Greek for the day. Music and hospitality will be provided from 3-6:00View more
