Legacies of the Gilded Age: Politics, Perspectives, and Public Perception

Dr. Laurie Stoff, Arizona State University will discuss “American Women and the Russian Revolution – Then and Now” as part of the Ideas and Images Series, exploring relevant topics in new and engaging ways.

During the revolutionary year of 1917, there were many foreigners present in Russia who observed the events and offered their commentary. Among them were a number of American women, including journalists, war correspondents, political activists, and famous people such as Julia Grant, granddaughter of Pres. U.S. Grant. They recorded their impressions of the upheaval in poignant eyewitness accounts.
