Artists participating will be photographer Byron Capo; oils and folk artist, Barbara McCarl Acosta; mullet cast net knitter, Mike Usina; and Rosa Maria Johnson, originally from the island of Minorca, who works in acrylics. These award-winning artists have been active in the St. Augustine area for many years, having participated in local galleries and art shows.
The exhibit will be on view from 10 AM to 5 PM daily in the Dunham Building, located within the Oldest House Museum Complex, with the entrance at 14 St. Francis Street, in downtown St. Augustine.
ARTIST MEET & GREET
There will be a meet & greet with the artists and makers of the Minorcan Artist Exhibition at the Oldest House Museum Complex. The program will take place from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, March 19.
Admission is FREE.
HISTORY
In 1777 some 600 people of Minorcan, Spanish, Greek, and Italian backgrounds (referred to collectively as “Minorcans”) arrived in St. Augustine, increasing the town’s population by more than 50 percent. They were refugees from a failed agricultural colony established by Alexander Turnbull at New Smyrna, in 1768.
