The organizers of St. Augustine Pecha Kucha are pleased to announce the next installment of the popular speaker event will happen on Friday, March 1 at the Backyard Stage of the St. Augustine Amphitheater. The evening kicks off with a social hour at 6pm, with food and beverages available for purchase, including the delicious fare of the African Love Kitchen, Cup of Joy, and Kaiser’s Deli. Leader Organizer Angie Ullmann commented: “We are so grateful to the St. Augustine Amphitheater and super excited for our first event at the Backyard Stage. We know it will be an excellent vibe for our 20th Pecha Kucha Night!”
Pecha Kucha (pronounced peh-chock-cha) is Japanese slang expression for “chit-chat.” The movement grew out of the efforts of a Tokyo-based architectural firm to improve the impact and timing of presentations by their associates. They developed a simple format of 20 slides that each show for 20 seconds. This gives the speaker a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds to make their point or impart their unique message. What began in 2003 as an effort to “talk less, show more” has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, with over 1,100 cities hosting Pecha Kucha events attended by more than 3 million people.
This time around, St. Augustine Pecha Kucha is inviting speakers and attendees to “Turn the Page” and will include presentations on the inherent fun of being yourself, stories of Sunset Boulevard, and many more moments about the various turning points in one’s life. Pecha Kucha provides a platform for the community to connect, as well as connect to some of the more interesting truths about the human condition.
Join us at the Backyard Stage of the St. Augustine Amphitheater on March 1: social hour starts at 6pm, and the presentations begin at 7pm. A suggested donation of $10 keeps this event going and helps pay for recordings that are posted to the international Pecha Kucha website for the world to see.
