If you’ve ever wondered where all of the cliches used in spooky house films originated from, join the St. Augustine Film Society for a Halloween party featuring “The Old Dark House”
Produced in 1932, the film stars Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Charles Laughton, Raymond Massey, and Gloria Stuart.
There's a storm, an old creepy house with an even creepier butler, unintended house guests, and an old Maria Ouspenskaya look alike. It was remastered in 2017 and is in English. It was made with serious scary intent but there are a lot of unintended laughs along the way.
