Xi Guo Watercolors are Featured During Febuary at Butterfield Garage

Xi is a nature lover and is fascinated by fairy tales and mythologies about elves and little spirits who live in the forests and flowers.

She explains, ”For example, Lilith, a fairy from Jewish mythology, is Adam’s first wife. She lives in the tree. She is a source material of fantasy and horror. I wish to bring a glamorous dream at a very gloomy moment.” Through her watercolors Xi investigates the impermanence of images, thoughts, realities, and dreams. Her paintings are about the need for something that is capable of taking viewers out of themselves into knowing that everything is phantom, not permanent, even if it is just for a moment.

Xi Guo started to focus on painting with watercolor about eight years ago, captivated by the texture, the indecision, and sometimes, the happy accident watercolor brings. She quickly became an international award-winning artist with two impressive international awards in 2015 and continues to be recognized with awards, national press, and memberships into the most elite levels of Watercolor Artists’ Societies. With good reason, her work consistently stops viewers in their tracks!

Xi Guo was born and grew up in Shanghai, China. She earned her BFA in oil painting from Shanghai Normal University and completed her graduate school at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), majoring in photography. In 2014, Xi moved to St. Augustine, Florida. She is a Signature member of AWS (American Watercolor Society), NWS (National Watercolor Society), and NWWS (Northwest Watercolor Society). Her articles and paintings have been featured in the International Artist Magazine, the Art of Watercolor Magazine, and Watercolor Artists Magazine. Her paintings were included in the art book, The Best of Watercolor- Splash 16 and Splash 20, published by North Light Books.

Xi won a cash prize at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours’ 203rd Open Exhibition plus a major Award from the Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennial. Her paintings have been accepted by the American Watercolor Society’s international exhibition 5 times since 2016. Xi won merchandise awards and cash prizes at the National Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition in 2016, 2017, and 2020. In 2018; received Third Place at the Biennial International Prize “Marche d’Acqua” Fabriano Watercolour, was a top cash award winner at the National Watercolor Society’s Annual Members Exhibition, and Best in Show winner at the Florida Watercolor society’s 48th Exhibition in 2019. Recently, Xi received the Best Watercolor Award at the 15th International ARC Salon competition and the Best of Show at the Florida Watercolor Society.
