Saturday evening July 17, the historic reenactment community (through a partnership between the Historic Florida Militia, the City of Saint Augustine, and the St Johns Cultural Council) will be conducting another “History on the Streets” saunter along Saint George Street and the historic area here in Saint Augustine. Historically clad re-enactors will walk around the city’s historic district in an effort to share the rich and diverse history we so love. Historians will speak with visitors and residents alike about Saint Augustine’s history dating back to its founding in 1565.
For this special 200th Anniversary of Florida becoming a US territory, all participants will be wearing their historically accurate 1821 attire. This allows the historical interpreters to explain to, and to show, the visitors the difference between fact and fiction. Guests are encouraged to take photographs and ask questions.
Participants are asked to meet in the area of the Spanish Bakery at 5:30 PM. The saunter takes place from 5:30-8:30 PM, stopping for photos and discussions all throughout the historic district.
If you think you might like to participate in the saunter, contact the St. Augustine Garrison or the Historic Florida Militia on Facebook, or email Ria at ribob2000@aol.com.
