The final Lightner Local exhibition of 2021 presents Ericka Sobrack: Suburban Echoes.
Ericka Sobrack’s small-scale landscape paintings focus on domestic scenes of suburban America. Sobrack creates intimate encounters with the banal and overlooked places within the suburban topography. Her paintings deconstruct familiar environments, creating unsettling images that evoke feelings of anticipation, angst, and trepidation. Through her gaze, viewers trespass through vacated open fields, empty playgrounds, and family dwellings, attending to details of the presence and absence of those who have been there before. Defined by an uneasy ambiguity, the resulting images are reminiscent of a distant memory or dream.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ericka Sobrack was born and raised in a small mid-western town in Minnesota and currently resides in Orlando, Florida. She received her MFA from the University of Central Florida in Spring 2019 and has participated in regional, national, and international exhibitions, with the most recent show being her solo exhibition with the Atlantic Center for the Arts- Arts on Douglas Gallery in Spring 2021.
