FOL Lecture Series-Hillbilly Elegy Documentary & Discussion

Middlelayers presents Replicating a J. D. Vance Anomaly, documentary film that recounts J. D. Vance’s journey from poverty to Yale Law School and beyond, as described in his best selling book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis. The film explores the factors in Vance’s life that allowed him to upwardly mobile and strategies to replicate these conditions to help millions of other children have access to the American Dream. Following the film, Middlelayers will discuss barriers to upward mobility that St. John’s county youth face today and community-based, youth development solutions.
