Wednesday Brown Bag Lunch Program - The Summer of '64 Presented by Scott Grant

Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine is thrilled to welcome back local historian Scott Grant. Patrons of the Wednesday Brown Bag Lunch Program may remember him from his presentation last year on the sinking of the SS Gulfamerica near the shore of Jacksonville during WWII. For this program he will be presenting on the pivotal events that happened both nationwide and here in St. Augustine that led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964. Learn about Martin Luther King Jr.’s arrest and days spent in the St. Johns County jail, the infamous pool event at the Monson Motor Lodge that was made famous all over the world with a single photograph, and the arrest of 17 rabbis who were praying as a form of protest. These key events in June of 1964 led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2nd, 1964.

As a Cornell Graduate, Scott Grant has sharpened his expertise with some of the best. With over 32 years of experience in the stock market, he is known not only for his lively debate but as an excellent chess player, notable pop history expert, financial columnist, and successful business owner. Grant studied economics and history at Cornell before working on Wall Street while earning a Law Degree from Rutgers. He is the author of the recently published The Merchant of Death is Dead: True Stories of the Progress of Humanity. He is also the president and CEO of Standfast Asset Management, LLC.
