During the month of March, celebrate all of the amazing accomplishments of strong, determined women. Since 1987, the United States has formally recognized March as National Women’s History Month. Every woman has a story to tell and gifts to share with the world.
The 2024 winners of the ROWITA Awards will also be acknowledged during this month’s open mic gathering. Each year the St. Johns Cultural Council recognizes women who have profoundly influenced the artistic environment of St. Johns County with the Dr. Gail Pflaster ROWITA (“Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts”) Awards.
Share your polished poems or bust out fresh ink from your notebook during St. Augustine’s longest-running open mic poetry event. Invite a friend or two or three. Ancient City Poets has always been open to the public and there is no charge at the door to get your name on the list.
This March gathering will be the second in an eight-part series of monthly events celebrating creative writing and reciting presented by Ancient City Poets, Puddled Booking, and the St. Augustine PoetFest. This series is coordinated by Chris Bodor, in recognition of his role as the Beat Poet Laureate for the State of Florida. HELP SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE ANCIENT CITY POETS
Ancient City Poets is the local chapter of the Florida State Poets Association (FSPA). These gatherings qualify as the monthly chapter meeting. The monthly readings are open to all. You do not have to be a member to share at the podium. Ancient City Poets is a community of poets and poetry lovers who have gathered in the Nation’s Oldest City, on the last Sunday of the month, since August 2009.
