  • KC Cali
    KC Cali
    Visual Arts: Painting
KC Cali is fascinated by the visual harmonies and emotional undercurrents of life. Her current artistic interest is St. Augustine. St. Augustine's historic streets, buildings and interesting characters provide ample subject matter for paintings and drawings. KC grew up in Vermont and spent most of her time as a kid running wild with siblings in the extensive woods and fields that surrounded her family home.  The independence and freedom afforded by this life fueled her vivid imagination and she decided early on to be an artist, despite brief flirtations with the idea of being a jockey and/or a ballerina. KC earned a BFA in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art & Design. Upon graduation, she went to work as a graphic designer and built an award-winning career as a designer and art director. Three years ago, KC made the decision to stop designing as a full time job and concentrate her creative energy on her painting and drawing while still maintaining a full time job. KC’s work is displayed at the Aviles Street Gallery, a juried cooperative gallery at 11C Aviles Street in St. Augustine. Her work can be seen at www.kccaliartist.com

  • Betty Carvajal
    Betty Carvajal
    Visual Arts: Painting
Betty Carvajal is a master in connecting people with their hearts and each other. Having expertise in art and psychology, she believes that art is healing for both the artist and the observer. Her works reflect influences as diverse as Van Gogh, Banksy, and Frankenthaler. Carvajal has been creating art since she was eight years old. Although it was not part of her family heritage, she felt she had been creating art for many lifetimes. "I realize you don't choose art; art chooses you." What started as a degree in architecture transitioning to a doctoral degree in psychology has come full circle, creating art that embodies her abstract style with a unique but traditional structure. Through extensive world travels, including living in Madrid during her childhood, New York, the Caribbean, Miami, and her current residence in St. Augustine, Florida, are all global experiences reflected in her work. Carvajal's art is exhibited in several art galleries across the nation and internationally (Madrid February 2022). Constructed and discovered meanings, ultimately strengthening, empowering people, and leaving the viewer with joy and hope. In the presence of her work, seemingly momentary forms become clarified through studious practice or simply being present; the intent is for the observer to be left with a deep connection.) Carvajal's art reflects the duality between innocence, reality, and ultimately optimism and hope.  Preparation for the medium of choice includes written,
  • Jay Charvat
    Jay Charvat
    Visual Arts: Painting
(South African, Born 1967) Jay was born in the seaport city of Cape Town, South Africa. With its majestic mountains, coastline and vibrant colorful culture, these elements made a distinct impression during his childhood. Jay used his passion for art, capturing the sea and everyday city life, using oils as his medium of choice, he often captures this through an impressionist art style. Constantly drawing as a child, his earliest and fondest moments were sketches and drawings at school. Jay has commissioned works of art for those who enjoy tropical seascapes  and people-watching. Without formal training, the French impressionists became his teachers. Monet in particular. Preferring full colors and bold painting strokes, Jay uses brilliant colors to capture his style of everyday life. Statement Overall, my work is a creative process, using loose brush strokes working with varied subjects to evoke either a mood or feeling. I take considerable time planning out my paintings before I start painting with a brush, working out compositions and the color combinations that will most effectively capture the drama of the painting. I work with a limited palette, which I mix into a wide variety of hues and values appropriate to the scene I am creating.  I like painting things happening in everyday life, mostly common everyday objects, actions or forgotten items we see and observe during our daily hustle and bustle, In this chaos of what we call everyday life, we pass scenes we hardly think twice about. It’s ether the person in the car in front of you, the man walking his dog on the beach or people running errands or palm trees swaying with an oncoming storm. Sometimes these are the very things we need to appreciate. Lastly I am inspired by my beautiful wife, who brings energy into that why i do.
